Gelassenheit in Late Heidegger, and its Importance to Psychotherapy and Daseinanalysis (1st session)

Gelassenheit (Releasement): its role in Heidegger’s late thinking, and its Importance to Psychotherapy and Daseinanalysis

This new series of 4 Zoom webinars focuses upon Heidegger’s understanding of Gelassenheit (releasement) and its importance to understanding his later thinking. We could consider it to be the fundamental disposition of Dasein that replaces Sein und Zeit’s Angst (anxiety) as the fundamental disposition of Dasein. To come to a detailed understanding of Gelassenheit we will read an extract of Heidegger’s Memorial Address for Conradin Kreutzer and parts of the first Country Path Conversations. We will also discuss the implications this shift from Angst to Gelassenheit may have for psychotherapy and Daseinanalysis.

First session: Alfred Denker, Introduction: Rethinking Sein und Zeit. Reading of Sein und Zeit, § 40.
